I made it to Atlanta! Only one more stop to go. Having no concept of time, I have just watched the sun rise over Terminal C. I couldn’t sleep at all on the plane. My choice of an exit row had the unintented consequence of having a seat which did not recline. I was in a fairly large 767, but that didn’t stop the snoring from the man on the other side of the plane 6 rows back from keeping me up. Yes, it was that loud, and yes, I am fragile :-)

This evening I have the opportunity to take the red-eye from LAX to ATL. I leave LAX at 11:55pm and arrive in Atlanta at 7:15am. While waiting here in the terminal, I thought I would share some thoughts on my travels and why on earth I decided to do this.

First, to the man in seat 10B on my flight from Tucson to LAX, I want to congratulate you in your child rearing capabilities. The man in 12B especially liked your progeny. At one point, he even asked the flight attendant to tell you to take control of your little one. I found the show we received at take-off to be the best of the bunch. Don’t remember? That’s when your child screamed at the top of his lungs for 5 minutes while we ascended into the heavens. It was like a bad amusement park right gone even worse. Thanks for that.

Thanks also for reminding me how to say my A-B-Cs. About the 9th time your child said them, I did - in fact - remember all the letters of the alphabet. A flight, and a study session. Thank you for that.

And finally, thank you for controlling your little dwarf when he tried to get off the plane before everyone else. We all really did appreciate the screaming when he was told he couldn’t do that.

Red-eye flight observation #1: Do not change from one airline to another at LAX. Otherwise, you have to walk down this hallway. While impressive at first, the warnings of being in a “steel cage” area halfway through were a bit unsettling.

First review? Very cool if you can find the music you like. I downloaded two songs very easily. No DRM, and if it’s in the top 100 it’s only $0.89.

I downloaded the small app they provide to manage downloads. Automatically adds your purchase to iTunes and the artwork seems to download automatically once imported.

This is my favorite hot button of the moment. As a private pilot, I am opposed to the idea of user fees or increases in aviation gas taxes. It is already prohibitively expensive to operate a private plane. Perhaps some difference can be made between a private pleasure aircraft and a corporate plane. Alas, in my opinion it will never pass. Even though the airlines have money, private enterprise has way more to lobby with.
